Hello Scott, I am a descendant of Nathaniel L. Kemp and on Sunday I paid my first visit to the Kemp Family Cemetery at Cottage Grove, Tennessee and took photos of the Kemp gravemarkers there. The cemetery is located approxately 2 miles west of Cottage Grove at the intersection of Grangier and McClure Roads. Photo 002--Gravestone of George Washington Kemp, son of Nathaniel L. Kemp and Margary Brashears Kemp. The inscription on the stone reads "He shall rise again at the resurrection at the last day." Photo 004--Gravestone of Elizabeth Pernese Swain Kemp, wife of George Washington Kemp. The inscription on the gravestone reads "The tint of health has left her cheeks, and cold is her mis brow. Her eyes are closed. Her pulse is still. She is an angel now." Photo 005--Alivia Marie Fazarri, the great, great, great, great, great, great-granddaughter of Nathanie L. Kemp, stands next to the gravestone of George Washington Kemp at Kemp Cemetery. |

Click the link to see the photo: Photo 030--A modern gravestone marks the gravesite of George Washington Kemp, Jr. and his wife, Martha Ann Kemp. George Washington Kemp, Jr. was the sixth son of George Washington Kemp. Photo 032---Gravestone of Allen A. Kemp, son of George Washington Kemp. The inscription reads "There will be no cripples in heaven," leaving one to summarize that Allen had some type of disability that was crippling. It is doubtful that he suffered some injury during the Civil War since he was only 11 years old at the onset of the war. Photo 033--Gravestone of G.W. (George Washington) Kemp, son of Nathan Langley Kemp, who was the second child of George Washington) Kemp. Nathan Langley Kemp was a veteran of the Confederate Army during the Civil War and died at his family home near Sedalia in Graves County, Kentucky. Nathan Langley was the father of a total of nineteen children, eight by his first wife and 11 by his second wife. |

Photo 038--In the foreground of the above picture are three graves marked only with concrete gravestones with no inscriptions--perhaps markers of other Kemp family members. The grave marker of Emmet Bascum Kemp and his wife, Lula Ida Kemp, is located at Palmersvillle Cemetery in Palmersville, Weakley County, TN. Emmet Bascum was a son of James Emmet Kemp; grandson of George Washington Kemp; and great-grandson of Nathaniel L. Kemp. Shown sitting beside is Alivia Fazzari, granddaughter of Jeff Washburn; great-granddaugter of Ramona Kemp Washburn, great-great-granddaughter of James Shobe Kemp; great-great-great granddaughter of William Robert Kemp; and great-great-great-great granddaughter of James Emmet Kemp, the brother of Emmet Bascum Kemp. The grave marker for W.R. (William Robert) Kemp and his wife, Sallie Shobe Kemp, is located at Bethany Church of Christ cemetery on Bethany Road between Palmersville and Cottage Grove, Tennessee. William Robert was a Church of Christ preacher and one of the founders of Bethany Church of Christ. He was the son of James Emmet Kemp; the grandson of George Washington Kemp; and the great-grandson of Nathaniel L. Kemp. The parents of his wife, Sallie Shobe Kemp, are also buried at the cemetery. |
