Alabama Census Counties - 1800
1810 - 1820 - Return to S.E. States - Return to 'What's New?'

In 1800, Alabama was still designated as 'Indian lands' and part of the state of Georgia (northern) and Misssissippi Territory (mid south). The extreme southern portions of Louisiana, Misssissippi, Alabama, and Florida were still claimed by the Spanish. There were no districts or counties according to that census.
**Note that for comparison the dark markings connote county borders at the time of the census and the light markings are the current boundaries.
Settlements grew rapidly, towns and cities sprung up, and larger counties divided to form new counties.
