In 1790, Georgia was largely wilderness and Indian lands, with seven or eight counties established along the South Carolina border. Those lands west represented the accepted bounds of the western frontier. Around this time, Nathan Camp, his father Edward Camp, Daniel Camp, Abisha Camp and others moved from the Pendleton, South Carolina area to settle homesteads in Franklin County, GA. The Camps still have strong roots there today. Edward Camp, oldest son of Thomas Camp III of Rutherford, NC is buried in the Camp Family Pioneer Cemetery along Estanollee River.
