Mississippi Census Counties - 1840
1800 - 1830 - 1870 - Return to S.E. States - Return to 'What's New?'

Ten years later, by 1840, the state of Misssissippi was completely divided into counties. In the top northeast corner was Tishimingo County where the Kemps were settling. Eventually, Tishimingo would become Alcorn, Prestiss, and Tishimingo Counties, Mississippi. I found several Kemp family cemeteries in these three counties when I visited them, including the Corinth City Cemetery in Alcorn County.
