 is how I greet them. Because it is true! Almost every person who finds us is a relative, albeit a distant relative. One of my most recent correspondences was with a Ragsdale descendant who is an eighth-cousin, once-removed. That is to say, that we share a great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather and he is one generation closer than me. Usually, our readers have reason to believe that they are actual descendants of Nathan Kemp/Camp (1774-1857), namesake of our website. If so, you have come to the motherload of all things Kemp! |
| I first began the W.C. Kemp Family Website in 1996, which revolved around my paternal grandfather's extensive family. But as I traveled the southeastern U.S. in search of family information and landmarks beyond that level, I quickly became acquainted with several second- and third-cousins, including lots of Kemp family researchers and genealogists. | |
| By the end of the millenium, many of us met at the 2000 Baltis Kemp Family Reunion outside Nashville, TN. There we agreed to form a loose alliance of Kemp family members and researchers devoted to the sharing of our family heritage with an ever-increasing number of Nathan Kemp descendants. With the focus of my website already expanding, it became the online fulfillment of our collective resolve. | |
| For some years, I felt much like Sir Isaac Newton, who once said, 'I stand on the shoulders of giants....' For that is how best to describe my role as webmaster, processing the massive amounts of written and photographic data that my newly-found cousins were providing. They were the true genealogists who had long been dedicated to digging out and compiling the mysteries of our Kemp heritage for years untold. Over the past years, I have worked to join their ranks and have traveled extensively to uncover the elusive link between our KEMP and earlier CAMP ancestry. Nine months ago, modern DNA testing unequivocably confirmed the Kemp-Camp connection as was previously suspected. | |
